Peter Franus has made wines in Napa Valley for over twenty-five years. Philosophically and stylistically, he relies on intuition and a minimalist approach to winemaking. He believes that the more you manipulate and hover over a wine, the greater the likelihood you will diminish its personality. After eating and drinking with him over the course of many years, we felt confident he had an excellent sense of what we were looking for in our own wine.
Our first release, the 2005 Grassi Cabernet Sauvignon is now sold out. The 2006 vintage will be relased to our mailing list in April, 2009.
Tasting Notes: The wine makes a strong first impression with its vibrant dark ruby color, nearly opaque, and still with a touch of purple. The aromas are complex: black cherry, allspice, cinnamon, ripe plum, cassis, coffee, and ginger. The flavors are lively, refreshing, and fresh, with a firm structure and the appropriate degree of acidity to wake up the palate. The alcohol level is very modest for California Cabernet.
